A-Frame Advertising Signs: What Are They and Why Use Them?

If you want effective new ways to advertise or promote a brick-and-mortar business, then A-frame signs are worth a look. How do these signs work and why should you use them?

What are A-frame signs?

A-frame signs are most common as a type of outdoor advertising. These small and portable signs often sit in the street outside businesses; however, you can also use them indoors.

These signs typically have two boards connected at the top. The boards slant down and out in a triangle shape. Signs also usually have a support strut running across the gap between the boards to hold the sign open and give it extra support. When you look at these signs from the side, their triangular structure and support strut look like the letter A, hence the name.

Some people have a permanent message printed on each side of the sign. Others use frames which can show different messages. For example, some A-frames include a blackboard or whiteboard; others have liftable panels under which you can display posters.

Why are A-frame signs so effective?

A-frame signs give a quick and easy outdoor advertising solution, which makes them popular with businesses in areas with pedestrian footfall or passing traffic. They have the following advantages.

Customer acquisition

A-frame signs can promote your business to new customers. If you position a sign outside your building, then anyone who passes the sign will learn more about you and what you do.

These signs are also a good way to direct people to you from a distance. For example, say you run a coffee shop on a quiet side street. You don't have much passing footfall. People who use busier nearby streets might not realise you are there.

If you put an A-frame sign at the intersection of your street and a busier one, then you tell people where you are and what you do. More people might pop in to your coffee shop on impulse. These new customers could then become regulars.

Brand awareness

A-frame signs can also help you build long-term brand awareness. If people pass your sign regularly, then they will absorb its information.

Even if they don't need your services or products now, they're more likely to remember you in the future because your company is imprinted on their brain. They'll also recognise your logo and brand in other places.

Customer engagement

A-frame signs help boost customer engagement with your business. For example, you can use a sign to promote a sale, discount or new product line. The sign might draw in both existing and new customers.

You can also guide people to engage with other parts of your business. For example, say you run a brick-and-mortar clothes shop and you want to build an online presence. You can use an A-frame sign to promote your website and your social media accounts. You can even encourage people to sign up with you online by advertising exclusive offers or competitions on the sign.

Versatile portability

One of the big plus points of A-frame signs is the fact that they are portable. They are light and easy to move, so you can change their position if you like. You don't have to commit to advertising in a set place. You can move the sign around until you find the best place for it.

Low one-off cost

A-frame signs are relatively inexpensive compared to other outdoor advertising options. You get a single cost here because you buy the sign outright.

So, you won't have regular hire or contract fees. Once you've paid for the sign and organised your printing, then you won't have any additional costs. Your sign can advertise or promote your business for as long as you want it to.
